Great things are rarely done by one person.
Great things are done by a team of people.
Hosting differs from facilitation. Imagine the difference between a facilitated dinner party and a hosted one. Hosts invite, welcome, and care for participants.
They design events that address needs and desires with attention to the purpose of gathering. They create a light structure, with flexibility, to encourage meaningful conversation and wise collective action.
What needs do you have that would benefit from a thoughtfully designed conversation? Perhaps you would like to bring a diverse group of stakeholders together and ask, “What did we learn during the pandemic about running this organization, that can inform our future operations?” or “ How can we work together so that all are being valued for what they have to offer?” or “How do we co-create the team we aspire to be and support each other in attaining that goal?”
Together, we will custom design retreats for your team based on what’s needed, and then create a structure for your team to do the work they are most passionate about. You will experience team building, not by climbing rope together, but by building relationships while learning about each other’s interests and innovating together about how you might better work together to reach your goals.
Follow the stages of hosting and discover wise action!
1.
Calling
You have determined a need. We will dissect the need to fully understand the desired outcome.
2.
Clarification
Together we gain clarity about the calling so that we can determine the purpose and principles of engagement with participants. What purpose and principles of engagement will serve the need/desire?
What is it time for? Is this to bring awareness to an issue? Are there tensions to hold? Is it time for action or understanding?
3.
Design and Invitation
What kind of gathering can we design to serve the purpose and who will be invited? How will we invite so that people are moved to show up? What questions and structure will best host the purpose and the participants? How will we encourage all voices through invitation and design?
4.
Meet
Now you relax and participate while I host; caring for the purpose, the participants, and the meaning of their conversations through questions and methodologies.
5.
Harvest
Together we will make meaning of the gathering by harvesting during the event and attending to collective wisdom. You communicate this to the stakeholders in language that will resonate with them.
6.
Act
You act based on the wisdom elicited during the event. Learn from the connections formed and the reaction from the actions made as a result of the event.
